My name is Emmanuel Lai, and I enjoy learning and trying my best academically. I see myself as a lifelong learner because I like discovering new things and challenging myself to improve. I always try to put effort into my work and learn from my mistakes, both academically and personally.

I’m really proud that I got an A in my Pre-Algebra 2 class, which is a fast-paced course for high-achieving middle schoolers. I worked really hard to make sure I got my problems right the first time and stayed disciplined with my studying so I could master all the advanced math concepts we learned.

In my Year 5 NAPLAN, I was really happy to get "Exceeding" in four areas: Numeracy, Reading, Spelling, and Grammar & Punctuation. I also got a "Strong" result for Writing.
The courses I take from Science Mom are self-paced, so I can go at my own speed. For science, I follow along with notes, answer interactive questions, and take quizzes for each lesson. I even get to vote in polls while watching the videos and do cool art or science projects when I want to learn more about a topic. It has fun activities to explore and practice problems to work on after every video.
I made a strategy game called Dragon Forge! I used Google AI Studio to help me build it quickly and figure out how all the game rules should work. It took a lot of work to turn my ideas into a real game, so I had to keep testing it and making changes until it was just right. Now, it's a really fun game that works in a few different ways.
I am part of the Moorebank Squadron of the Australian Air League. It is a youth leadership program where we focus a lot on teamwork and being disciplined. I’ve learned how to follow hard instructions even when there’s a lot of pressure, and we play team strategy games to help us learn how to work better together.
I entered a stock market game where I had to manage a portfolio of Australian stocks (ASX), and I ended up making a 67% return on my investment! To do it, I had to learn a lot about how money and the stock market work. I spent time researching different companies and made sure not to put all my money into just one thing so that I wouldn't lose it all if one stock went down. It was a great way to practice planning ahead and making smart decisions with "money" under pressure.
I made it all the way to the Obsidian League by practicing every single day! To get there, I had to be really disciplined and manage my time well so I could hit my goals every week. It taught me a lot about not giving up, even when the targets were tough to reach.
I’ve spent time helping out and talking with elderly people in my community. It’s taught me a lot about how to be a good listener and how to talk to people with respect. I’ve learned that just giving a little bit of my time can make a big difference, and I’m always trying to think of ways I can be helpful and kind to others.
I’m a competitive basketball player for the Hoopstars in the City of Sydney competition, and I’m always out on the court. Playing for a team has taught me how to work with others to reach a goal and how to stay focused when a game gets really intense. I’ve also learned to be disciplined during practice and how to be a good sport, whether we win or lose.
